Mexico strongly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

The Secretary of Foreign Relations requested that there be a diplomatic solution to the conflict that protects the population.

Mexico rejected the use of force and strongly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine , as announced by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard.

Through a video published on his social networks, the secretary pointed out that the determination comes from the instructions of the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to guide Mexico’s participation in the United Nations Council and other forums.

“After talks with more than seven countries and our embassy in Ukraine, we are very clear that we are facing an invasion , it is an operation with a scale that covers almost the entire territory of the country,” he declared.

Ebrard asked on behalf of the Mexican authorities, that the fire be stopped “immediately”, that the territorial integrity of Ukraine be respected and that there be a diplomatic outlet that protects the civilian population.

The head of foreign relations recalled that Mexico suffered invasions from France and the United States, and that due to the history of the country “this invasion must be rejected” .

He also pointed out that the support work for the Secretary General of the United Nations will continue, and that this position was the one that was instructed to Juan Ramón de la Fuente, permanent representative of Mexico to the United Nations (UN).

Marcelo Ebrard made it clear that this is the position of Mexico in all the forums where it participates .

Ukraine had already asked Mexico to condemn the attacks

This Thursday, the Ukrainian ambassador to Mexico, Oksana Dramarétska, asked the Mexican authorities for a clear position regarding Russia’s military operation in her country.

He also called for Mexico, as well as different partner countries of Ukraine, to break diplomatic relations with Russia.

“We very much respect the consistency of your support for territorial identity, but today we need a statement condemning Russian aggression , which we have not felt until now,” Dramarétska accused this morning.

” We consider it unacceptable to maintain diplomatic relations with the aggressor state , which openly attacks its neighbor for no reason,” said the representative of Ukraine in Mexico.
