The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued the warning and the storms are expected to continue this Thursday

A strong storm broke out in the City of Buenos Aires and GBA and the National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a series of yellow and orange alerts and warned about the irruption of a cyclone for this Thursday. Other provinces will also be affected by storms and strong winds.

For today the yellow alert affects the entire territory of the province of Buenos Aires, in addition to CABA, La Pampa, San Luis, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, Corrientes, Misiones, Formosa, Chaco and Santiago del Estero.

In this sense, the professional detailed yesterday: “A cold front is advancing through the area. That cold front is going to be causing intense storm conditions this Wednesday and there is also going to be a change in the direction of the wind. Some gusts are already being observed in the province of Buenos Aires. Finally, yesterday there were mainly rains like the deluge that happened in CABA.

Already on Wednesday, the orange alert hit the northwestern area of the province of Buenos Aires and the south of Córdoba and Santa Fe; in addition to the entire province of Corrientes. The yellow one, meanwhile, was also issued for the city and provinces of Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero, Chaco, Formosa, Córdoba, La Rioja, San Luis, Mendoza and La Pampa.

Regarding the cold front, Fernández added yesterday that “later it will interact with the atmospheric conditions in the area and will end up forming a low pressure system. That is a whole process that takes many hours and even days. It begins on Wednesday with the advance of the front and ends up forming a low pressure system that will already be formed and developed on Thursday. It is a process that has already begun .”

In relation to this Thursday, the meteorologist commented: “with the formation of this low pressure system, storms and intense rains will continue to be generated in a large part of the province of Buenos Aires, but above all, they will be affecting the east of the province and the City of Buenos Aires. For this reason, there is also a storm alert that also includes CABA. But along with the low pressure system, the winds are going to start to pick up. A large part of the central zone of Argentina, including the City of Buenos Aires, also has a yellow alert for winds this Thursday.”

Precisely about the wind in CABA and its surroundings, the average will be between 30 and 55 km/h, but with gusts that can reach 60 or 70 km/h, according to Fernández.

“Dangerous meteorological phenomena are expected for society, life, property and the environment,” the SMN official site said yesterday in relation to the orange warning in the early afternoon. As for the yellow, it detailed: “Possible meteorological phenomena with the capacity for damage and risk of momentary interruption of daily activities.”

An alert is a preventive message that informs about the possible occurrence of phenomena that could put the environment, life or property of society at risk, according to the National Meteorological Service.
