Jahangirpuri Violence: Who are the Rohingya Muslims who are being accused of rioting and how did they get here?

Stones were pelted in Jahangirpuri Delhi during the procession on Hanuman Jayanti. In the violence that took place here, 9 people including the policeman were injured. Amidst the violence, the mob ransacked the houses and shops. So far the police have arrested 23 people. Politics has now entered in this whole matter. BJP and AAP are faces to face. The BJP has told the hand of Rohingya Muslims behind the violence. Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta has accused the Aam Aadmi Party of providing electricity and water facilities to Rohingya Muslims. At the same time, AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, while replying to the BJP, said, when the police and CBI are yours, then how did the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis come to the country?

In such a situation, the question arises who are these Rohingya Muslims, where did they come from and why did they settle in India? Know the answers to these questions

Where did Rohingya Muslims come from?

According to the report of Aljazeera, the Rohingya are the group in which the most people believe in Islam. That’s why the word Rohingya Muslim is used for them. Their connection is with the Rakhine province of Myanmar. The people of this group speak the Rohingya language which is most widely spoken in Myanmar.

In Myanmar, 135 different groups have been recognized for citizenship. But Rohingya are not included in this. He was stripped of his citizenship in 1982. Many rights were taken from them including government jobs and education. Since then there has been violence against Rohingyas in the country. They started leaving the country after the Rohingya genocide in 2017. They started looking for their hideout in other neighboring countries including India and Bangladesh. Right now their number in Bangladesh is more than 13 lakhs. That’s why they are also called Bangladeshi Muslims.

Different views of people in Jahangirpuri

There are different opinions among the people about whether Rohingya Muslims live in Jahangirpuri, Delhi or not. A person living in Jahangirpur says that there are 100 such families here who have been doing fish farming for 20 years. Most of these people are Bangladeshi Muslims. At the same time, another person says, most of the Muslim families living here are from West Bengal. Bangladeshis and Rohingya Muslims do not live here.

Historian, Vivek Shukla says, where are the Muslims living in Jahangirpuri, it is difficult to tell clearly why they also speak the Bengali language. The language of West Bengal and Bangladeshi Muslims is almost the same. Hence there is also a situation of confusion.

How many Rohingya Muslims are there in Delhi?

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHRC), there are 1,000 Rohingya refugees registered in Delhi. These figures are official, although the actual figure may be higher. In Delhi, they mostly work as laborers. After looking for employees who came from here as a migrant, started settling here. Here their number is increasing.

There are many such areas of Delhi where their population is more. These include Jasola, Kanchan Vihar, Shram Vihar, Yamuna Bank and Madarpur Khadar.
