According to experts, the thermometer will climb up to 35 degrees in the afternoon. After that it’s fine. According to the experts at the state warning center, an extremely violent storm is expected. Here you can find out where in Upper Austria the thunderstorms are the heaviest.

There have been several severe storms in Upper Austria

Specifically, the warning, which was drawn up by meteorologists from ZAMG, says: “Very unstable, hot air with high air humidity close to the ground will probably explode in the evening and the first half of the night with numerous violent thunderstorms”.

And further: “Here, large hail is to be expected locally, as well as heavy rain. However, the main focus is on the wind, which with the thunderstorms from the evening hours and in the following night hours brings widespread heavy gusts of around 100 km/h. Locally there are also somewhat higher ones Wind peaks possible.”

  • Be sure to avoid forests, parks, and avenues!
  • Avoid non-essential car trips! Plan outages in the road, rail, and air traffic! Do not park vehicles near trees!
  • Secure outdoor objects that can be moved in good time (e.g. party tents, trampolines, or garden furniture), rotating parts represent a danger!
  • Close windows, doors and garage doors, skylights as well as roller and window shutters!
  • Avoid outdoor activities or break them off early!
  • Keep animals safe! Don’t stay in a tent or caravan! Expect power and telecommunications failures

Orange warning:   Heavy gusts of wind are to be expected in the evening, with the highest wind peaks occurring in the lowlands. In general, severe gusts of wind are possible everywhere, but the strongest gusts of wind can be narrowed down to the regions between Vöcklabruck, Kirchdorf/Krems Linz, and Marchland (edge ​​of the Alps to the central area, parts of the Hausruckviertel ).

The danger of hail tends to be present everywhere today, the potential for locally larger hail is somewhat higher at the edge of the Alps. Heavy rain is only a limited issue.

Yellow warning:   The orange color usually dominates, the Inner Salzkammergut/Hallstätter See and parts of the southern Eisenwurzen would most likely still be “yellow”.

This continues a trend. The experts from UBIMET take stock: “June 2022 has been very thunderstormy so far. The country’s hotspots were Styria and Upper Austria. Up to June 21 at 7:20 p.m., 308,950 lightning bolts were located across Austria”.
