Types of intervention

Although it may seem like a fairly simple surgery, there are different types of methodology and the specialist will decide which one is best suited for each patient:

• External implant. It involves implanting a silicone or Goretex prosthesis in the area to mark a new shape of the chin. The external body has a consistency similar to the bone so that malformations are avoided and it is transmitted naturally, integrating fully into the facial physiology. It is usually used for cases in which more volume is needed and it is also a good tactic to hide age furrows. The prosthesis is designed by a specialist according to our features and is definitive, therefore, if it is not wanted, it does not have to be changed in a lifetime.
• Restructuring of the area. In this type of intervention, we work with the area’s available material and no prosthesis is needed. A part of the same bone is advanced and thus the desired shape is achieved. With this method, despite being more complicated, much more concealed and natural results are achieved.

The procedure does not usually last more than half an hour and is performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the case. The recovery lasts about a week and for several days you should have a soft diet due to the discomfort when chewing. You also have to avoid the sun and physical exercise for a season.
