Star Wars Rogue Squadron remains for 2023 despite rumors of indefinite delay
Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is set for December 22, 2023, according to Disney. This deals a blow to rumours of indefinite delay that have surfaced since last year.
Disney published its list of upcoming releases last week, and Rogue Squadron appears there on the date indicated above.
Speculation about Jenkins’ film grew over time, from the initial announcement in December 2020, with a video of the director dressed as a pilot and saying she wanted to make “the best fighter pilot movie ever made.”
Jenkins will be the first woman to lead a Star Wars movie, although examples have multiplied in series, both in The Mandalorian and in The Book of Boba Fett.
What is most worrying is that the start of the production of Rogue Squadron has not been reported. It is also unknown which actors will participate, and what the specific plot of the film will be.
The Hollywood Reporter was the first to talk about production delays, with the film expected to start shooting in 2022. The coronavirus pandemic and Jenkins’ projects, including a third Wonder Woman movie, complicated everything.
ComicBook noted in 2021: “While a number of other filmmakers have come and gone from Lucasfilm in recent years, it’s worth noting that these reports do not comment on any disagreement between the studio and the filmmaker: it’s simply that production schedules aren’t being worked out. currently lining up. The studio and Jenkins will likely remain committed to the project, but it could take more years to fully realize.”
Meanwhile, fans of the saga will have to settle for the Disney Plus series. For this year The Book of Boba Fett ended, with the presence of Din Djarin, the protagonist of The Mandalorian, which represented a banquet for his followers.
The third season of The Mandalorian is expected in late 2022, while the Obi Wan Kenobi series and the second season of The Bad Batch will also be released this year.
There are two more Star Wars movies (also with more shadows than lights, as not much has been revealed about them) that are in the pipeline: one developed by Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and another by Taika. Waititi and Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
