Miley Cyrus Flowers Receives Gloria Gaynor’s Seal Of Approval. Exclaims, ‘Well Done Miley!’

Flowers for Miley Cyrus, courtesy of Gloria Gaynor. The new track “Flowers,” released less than a week ago, has been compared to Gaynor’s 1978 smash “I Will Survive,” and Gaynor is fine with the comparison.

Recently, the 79-year-old disco icon tweeted her appreciation for Cyrus’ new track on Instagram. The song premiered last Friday (January 13), and it serves as the first single from Cyrus’ upcoming eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, which is due out on March 10.

In an Instagram post dated January 17, the Masked Singer alum shared a clip from the “Flowers” music video and said, “I’m in Nashville working on new music and just heard, “Flowers,” for the first time, @MileyCyrus…”

Gaynor went on, saying that the new song “carries the torch of empowerment and inspires everyone to discover strength in themselves to persevere and survive.” Congratulations, Miley!

In recent days, a mashup of “Flowers” and “I Will Survive” has been making the rounds on Twitter as fans point out the obvious parallels between the two songs. Since “Flowers” is so close in message to “I Will Survive,” some have speculated that Cyrus intentionally interpolated Gaynor’s self-love hymn at specific instances, particularly during the choruses.

Lyrically and musically, “Flowers” has been compared to Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man.”

For Miley Cyrus fans, the first few weeks of 2019 have been nothing short of a whirlwind, beginning with her New Year’s Eve special on NBC, which she co-hosted with her godmother, country music great Dolly Parton.

Her announcement of “Flowers” and its release date during the show drove fans into a frenzy when they realised it would coincide with the birthday of Cyrus’ ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth. It was only five days later on August 1 that she announced the title and cover art for her upcoming studio album, Endless Summer Vacation.

A writer by day and reader by night, I am someone who - as soon as she graduated from high school - knew she wanted to write. How? When? where? It did not matter as long as I got to write! And every second of it has been full of learning, adventure, and excitement. I love reading, especially high fantasy, fiction, and thrillers! And when I am not reading or reviewing books on my blog, I try my hand at graphic designing for blog posts, headers, logos. Add a little bit of video editing into the mix and I'm peachy!
