Malkovich, Espert And Anabel Alonso, At The Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria

EFE, Santander, 16 January. In addition to the world premiere of the new adaptation of “La Celestina” starring Anabel Alonso and the appearance of dancer Luca Lacarra, comedian Dani Martin, and the musical “Peter Pan,” the new lineup at the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria also features John Malkovich and Nuria Espert.

This new program, presented by Cantabrian Vice President and Minister of Culture Pablo Zuloaga, will run from February 11 to June 10 and feature 32 shows (4 of which are world premieres) and 41 performances. It will feature works by both classic authors and contemporary figures in Spanish theater, as well as five great orchestras directed entirely by women.

On January 17, pre-sale tickets will go on sale, and on January 31, tickets will go on sale to the general public.

According to Zuloaga, the Palacio de Festivales has already recovered the pre-pandemic data, and It has even exceeded them, with an increase of 10,000 viewers compared to the last season before covid-19, 30 percent more. “We have fulfilled what we were looking for: a program of excellence, which does not want to leave anyone indifferent,” he said.

For now, the theater will once again be the major protagonist of the Palace’s programming with the debut of the rendition of the work by Fernando de Rojas, “La Celestina“, one of the pinnacles of Spanish literature, by Eduardo Galán and Directed by Antonio Castro Guijosa.

This adaptation, lead by Anabel Alonso, will premiere on April 21 and 22 and features a cast that also includes José Saiz, Vctor Sainz, Claudia Taboada, Beatriz Grimaldos, and David Huertas.

The season finale of “La isla del aire,” starring Nuria Espert and directed by Mario Gas, will be shown on April 9 and 10 at the Palacio de Festivales, making it a remarkable addition to this lineup.

Five women will be in charge of orchestras across the world, putting a feminine spin on classical music.

Therefore, on February 24 Elim Chan will conduct the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and on March 16 Clio Gould will conduct the Britten Symphony.

On April 15, Marzena Diakun will lead the Community of Madrid Orchestra and Choir, and on April 27 and May 1, Anna Rakitina will conduct the Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra.

On April 29, the Palace will host four recitals, the most noteworthy of which is “The infernal comedy,” a drama for one actor, two sopranos, and orchestra in which John Malkovich plays the role of a serial killer of prostitutes.

The dance performances of Luca Lacarra and Matthew Golding in “Eterno,” a tribute to Pablo Picasso on the 50th anniversary of his death, will also take center stage; from April 24 to 26, “Peter Pan, the musical” will be performed; and on March 11, Dani Martnez’s comedic show “Ya lo digo yo” will make its way to the city.
