Joe Alwyn Addresses Taylor Swift Engagement Rumors

Joe Alwyn still doesn’t want to talk about his five-year relationship with Taylor Swift, but their musical association is another story.

In a new interview with The Guardian published on April 30, the actor discussed the Grammy for his contribution to Swift‘s 2020 album Folklore. During the promotion of the series Conversations with friends, he told a little about Taylor and the creations of the songs that have participated, as we remember that he is credited with the co-writing of Exile and Betty, as well as the co-production of My Tears Ricochet, August, This Is Me Trying and Illicit Affairs. On the other hand, the couple’s collaboration did not end there. On Swift’s stunning ninth album, titled Evermore, Alwyn takes part in Champagne Problems, Coney Island, and Evermore.

“It wasn’t like: it’s five o’clock, it’s time to try to write a song together,” he told The Guardian. “It came from playing on a piano, and singing badly, and then being heard, and being, like: let’s see what happens if we get to the end together,” she confessed.

He continued: ‘I mean fun is such a dumb word, but it was so much fun. And it was never a work thing or a: we’re going to try to do this because we’re going to get this out. It was like baking sourdough in a lockdown.’ Winning a Grammy, she said, was a “ridiculous bonus.”

Joe Alwyn, who has spoken on numerous occasions about his desire to keep their relationship out of interviews, didn’t want to talk much more about Taylor Swift.

“If you and I were having a conversation and having a shandy at my house, and it wasn’t being recorded, then, of course, other things would be said,” he told the interviewer, who noted that Swift has used almost the same phrase in an interview from 2019. (“If you and I were having a glass of wine right now, we’d be talking about it… but it’s just going out into the world,” Swift said then).

Asked by Nicholson if Alwyn and Swift had discussed addressing their relationship with the press, he said: ‘Erm. It was like, well, why? There are more interesting things to talk about and I just think it feeds into a weird part of the culture that I’m not interested in being a part of.’

Also in an interview for The Wall Street Journal he spoke about the rumor of his supposed engagement and said: “If they gave me a pound every time I think someone has told me that he was engaged, I would have a lot of coins.”

This mirrors his earlier statement to Elle UK in April: ‘It’s not really [because] I want to be secretive and private; it’s more of a response to something else,’ she explained: ‘We live in a culture that is increasingly intrusive….the more you give—and frankly, even if you don’t give—something is taken away.’
