Her father John Cooke is a retired Police Officer and her mother Lindsy Cooke is a Sales Representative. Later her parents divorced when she was too young. After that, she and her sister lived with her mother.

At the age of 18 Cooke began her television career with BBC mini-series production in 2012; Blackout and The Secret of Crickley Hall. Cooke realized that she is perfect for television not for theatres. She continued her television journey and recorded a tape for the Audition for the American horror show Bates Motel, and in just three weeks she was selected for the leading role in the series.
In 2015, she gave her voice in an American series Axe Cop. After this, she grabbed the leading role in Vanity Fair, where she played the role of Becky Sharp. Later she worked in several series and her upcoming series is House of the Dragons.
Cooke also started her movie career with the short film Ruby’s Skin (2014). Later she featured in films like; The Quiet Ones, Me Eagle, and the Dying Girl. In 2018, she worked on Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi movie. She also worked in movies like Follow the Roses and Life Itself.
In 2019, she starred in Sound of Metals with rapper Riz Ahmed. And in 2021, she starred in two movies titled Little Fish and Naked Singularity.
