From that time people started celebrating Father’s Day together on 19th June.

The story of celebrating Father’s Day is like this. When Sonora Smart Dodd was young, her mother passed away suddenly. Dodd was then looked after by his father, William Smart. One day when Dodd was present at the prayer meeting, the bishop of the church gave a sermon on the power of motherhood. Dodd was greatly influenced by this sermon. At that time, Dodd thought of celebrating Father’s Day on the lines of Mother’s Day. After this, on June 19, 1909, Dodd celebrated Father’s Day for the first time. At the same time, in the year 1924, then US President Calvin Colley approved Father’s Day. Four decades later, President Lyndon Johnson announced in 1966 that Father’s Day would be celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June.
