One of the biggest triathlon competitions of the year is taking place in Podersdorf for the 34th time. The duel on the half-distance between Austria’s Michael Weiss, who had to admit defeat to the Hungarian Dávid Hanko in 2019, will be relaunched. Weiss, who holds the track record in Podersdorf on the long distance and burns one of the fastest times ever driven over 180 kilometers (4:01 hours) into the asphalt, now wants to take revenge. True to the motto “Fast, Hard, Legendary”, not only Michi Weiss’ time made waves. “Podersdorf is always good for a surprise, be it wind, heat or changing conditions, everything is possible here,” said organizer Daniel Döller, referring to the tough and spectacular race.
From children to professionals
The 34th Austrian Triathlon in Podersdorf (Friday to Sunday) will again have over 2,000 athletes: veterans, beginners, amateurs and professionals. Over all distances from kids aquathlon to long distance. One of the highlights this year is the colorful starting field. In addition to the aforementioned duel on the half-distance, an Olympic competitor has also confirmed that she will participate in the sprint distance. Julia Hauser from Vienna seeks redress after the botched Olympic appearance and looks to the future: “Of course, this early departure was tough for me at the Olympics and it took me a few days to put it away. Now it’s time to set new goals and look positively into the future, ”said Hauser, looking forward to her participation.
Unger as a long-distance favorite
The German Marc Unger has announced himself on the long distance, who this year will be facing mainly Austrian challengers.
